East Cork Cinema Club first began in 2009, and continues to bring international films to the region. Films are screened on Monday nights at the Great Island Community Centre, on the top floor (Room 14). The season runs from August through to May. The Club also presents special event screenings as well as fundraising nights.

The Kitchen Brigade
Monday 12th January
Cathy Marie, leaves her position as chef at a fancy restaurant, takes a position at the canteen of a shelter for immigrants, mostly African and South Asian youths likely to be deported at age 18. She introduces the use of brigade de cuisine in the shelter’s kitchen and begins to transform their lives.

Monday 9th February
Having been thrown out of his latest foster home, Christy moves in with his estranged
brother Shane in Cork city. Shane is now a family man with his own business. The tension between the brothers grows and Christy could be out the door in a matter of days. Winner ‘Best Irish Film’ Galway Film Fleadh 2025.
Deaf
Monday 9th March
Ángela, a deaf woman living in rural Spain, is expecting a baby with her hearing partner, Héctor. This stirs up her anxieties about motherhood and her ability to communicate with her daughter, and triggers a crisis for the couple, as she navigates raising her daughter in a world that does not cater to her needs. Winner ‘Audience Award’ Best Feature Film, Berlin Film Fest. 2025’.
The Ballad Of Wallis Island

Eccentric millionaire Charles dreams of reuniting his favourite folk-rock duo, McGwyer
and Mortimer, so he invites the estranged bandmates and former lovers, to perform a private concert at his home on the remote Wallis Island. Problems arise when Nell has arrived with her husband. The old musical magic might still be there, but so are the issues that broke the duo apart.
It Was Just An Accident

Garage owner Vahid thinks he recognises a man as the officer who once tortured him in prison. He kidnaps the stranger. However, as he seeks confirmation of the man’s identity from fellow former prisoners, the group grapples with moral dilemmas about vengeance and the possibility of mistaken identity.

Holy Cow
Monday 25th May
18-year-old Totone lives in south-east France, an area renowned for the award winning Comté cheese. He just wants to have fun with his friends, but when his father has a terrible accident, he is forced to grow up quickly and support himself and his 7-year-old sister. When a competition to make the best Comté cheese in the region is announced, he sees an opportunity to take control of his chaotic life.
